Environmental
Statement: Plant 1 of the current CeramTec
facility was originally constructed by Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing
Company (3M) in 1960-1961. General
Electric Ceramics, Inc (GECI) subsequently purchased Plant 1 in September of
1983. During these periods, a certain
amount of ground water and soil contamination occurred due to the release of
Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) onto the plant site. 3M & GE entered into consent agreement (No 97-029-W)
effective 28 March 1997 with the South Carolina Department of Health and
Environmental Control (DHEC). 3M and GE
are currently working with DHEC to monitor this contamination. A full copy of the Ground Water Assessment
Report can be made available upon request.
The consent order does not impact the operations of the facility.
